Buying & selling safely
SnapYard connects you with the seller — the deal itself happens between the two of you, in person. That keeps parts cheap and scam-resistant. A few rules keep it that way.
Meeting up
- Yards and shops: buy at their place of business during business hours. That's the normal, safe default.
- Private sellers: meet in a public, busy spot in daylight — many police stations have designated buy/sell zones in their parking lots.
- Bring a friend for big or heavy parts. Tell someone where you're going.
- For engines, transmissions, and other heavy parts, confirm ahead who's loading and what equipment is there.
Paying
- Inspect the part before you pay. Check the part number against your old part if you can.
- Cash or in-person e-transfer at pickup. Confirm the e-transfer was deposited before leaving.
- Never send a deposit to "hold" a part from someone you haven't met. That's the #1 parts scam.
- SnapYard never processes payments and never asks for your payment details. Anyone claiming to collect payment "through SnapYard" is a scammer — tell us.
Shipping
- Local pickup is the default here — you inspect before paying, nobody gets burned.
- If you do arrange shipping with a seller, that's between you two. Be extra careful paying strangers up front — the protections above don't apply.
